Remote Learning

Brookland Infant and Nursery school prioritises, promotes and supports face-to-face education.  The following information is intended to provide clarity and transparency to children and parents or carers about what to expect from remote education when learning in school is not possible.

When would remote learning be considered?

  • When the headteacher decides it is not safe to open the school, that opening would contradict guidance from local or central government.
  • Occasions when individual children, for a limited duration, are unable to physically attend their school but are able to continue learning.

Remote learning may be implemented in different ways depending on the circumstances, age of the child and the needs of the child.   This could include a combination of learning from: set work in advance using a range of school platforms/external providers, recorded lessons, live Google Meets and story sessions.

Class teachers and year groups will decide on provision with support from the senior leadership team.

We use Google Classroom as our digital platform to support us in delivering remote learning. Google Classroom is a digital learning platform created by Google. This platform ensures that children are given the best opportunity to continue learning remotely, at home, and all the resources, activities and recorded teaching videos will be available in one place every day. We hope this will make things easy for parents to access.

We may also use MyMaths, Little Wandle, SpellingShed as well as external providers (e.g. BBC Bitesize).

In the event of remote learning needing to take place, all children will be provided with a Google login to be able to access Google Classroom.

All communication will initially come from the school via our Arbor email system or the school website. Google Classroom will then also be used for further communication.

The school will provide remote learning based on the resources available to the school at the time and provision may be limited due to circumstances (e.g. staff sickness).

If you need assistance with technology to access remote learning, please contact the school office.

More details on our remote learning provision can be found in the documents below:

  • Remote Learning Policy
  • Remote Learning Guidance for Parents and Carers
  • Google Classroom Parent and Carer Guide
  • Google Meet Home-School Agreement

If you have any questions or require further information, please email the school office.

Here are some links to work you can do with your child on the first day of remote learning if your child is well enough to work.  During this first day, your teacher will be organising your child's remote learning provision.

Here are some useful websites if you are worried about anything at all and want someone to talk to.  You can always speak to any adult who works in our school or our safeguarding team.
