Our vision at Brookland Infant and Nursery school is that all children develop a positive attitude to both Physical Activity and Sport. We want them to know the importance of physical activity in their daily lives for both their mental health and physical wellbeing. Therefore, it is our intent to provide an inclusive, broad and progressive PE curriculum that ensures all children will benefit, whether through enhancing existing skills, learning new skills or being introduced to new sports, clubs, festivals and opportunities.
Between our staff and PE specialist teachers, the children receive a minimum of 1 ½ hours of high quality PE lessons a week which shows clear progression from Nursery through to Year 2. Each year group receives a high quality Gymnastics lesson every week, which is mapped out in broad and balanced blocks using Val Sabian Gymnastics. Children also participate in taught dance and games lessons. A professional sports coach is used to deliver an additional games session for KS1, which covers Ball Skills, Netball and Athletics.
Swimming is taught in addition to this in both Reception and Key Stage 1, with each year group enjoying time in our on-site swimming pool in both the Autumn and Summer terms.
Children will also have of opportunities to participate in a wealth of competitions and festivals through inter class competitions, Barnet School Sports Partnerships and our summer Sports Day.
Daily physical activities also take place in KS1, such as Go Noodle and the Daily Mile.
