We aim to provide an environment that allows each child access to as many high quality musical experiences as possible, in order that they develop their own creative and aesthetic skills and gain awareness and appreciation of music, in turn developing the full music potential of every child.
We aim to make music a joyful and integral part of school life, which enhances the environment of the children.
We teach Music weekly and our curriculum is based around the Charanga Scheme of work. Within class lessons, children have the opportunity to listen to and compare different musical pieces, sing, play and improvise on tuned/untuned instruments and perform.
We have a specialist music teacher who teaches music to every KS1 class and leads weekly singing practice in Years 1 and 2. Year 2 participate in the annual Barnet Music Festival and perform with children from other local schools. Children have the opportunity to learn a range of instruments and all Year 2 children learn the recorder in the summer term. We also have a KS1 singing club that practice weekly.
