English is taught daily with different focuses of spoken language, reading and writing.  Phonics is taught discretely on a daily basis as is Guided Reading.

Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar teaching is interwoven into English lessons taught in a meaningful context with opportunities to apply learning across the curriculum. Each topic in enriched with a high quality texts which are explored and often used as stimulus for writing. Detailed long term planning ensures different genres are covered throughout the year. We provide opportunities to write at length on a regular basis both linked to the topic or with topical tasks that reflect the interests of the children.
